Trends for Winter Weddings 2018

The trends for weddings change with the seasons, as colors come in and out of fashion and styles adapt to the weather and the surroundings. So, what can you expect from a winter wedding in 2018?

Cake trends

Wedding cakes in fall and winter this year are going to be much less fussy than in previous years. Simple tiers and plainer styles will be the order of the day. For decoration, real flowers and greenery will be used. You could also consider the ‘translucent’ cake, where just a very thin layer of frosting is used so you can see just some of the cake through it.

Stationery trends

Calligraphy is a big trend again at the moment, giving a very traditional look to invitations and other wedding day essentials such as the order of service. Calligraphy is also a great option for the wedding day signage, but to make it stand out consider decorative borders using leaf garlands. Finding a calligrapher is easy to do online but it is a great skill to learn if you have a little spare time.

Fashion trends

Longer sleeves on dresses for both the bride and the bridesmaids is going to be a main fashion feature at winter weddings in 2018. The trend of having a second dress for the evening reception is going to remain popular this year as more brides are thinking about the practicalities of dancing in their wedding dress!

Floral trends

Winter flower trends for weddings are still going to include bouquets that look as though they have been freshly picked and very natural. Opt for wine-colored flowers such as dahlias. For table arrangements go with green – succulents, eucalyptus leaves and bay leaf branches can all help to create a dramatic effect. Use berries for color rather than flowers.

Food trends

Food and drink stations are a big trend at the moment. This includes coffee stands, taco bars and dessert bars. This gives a wedding a much more relaxed flavor and is a far cry from the traditional sit-down dinner or even a buffet. Make sure you choose local dishes using seasonal ingredients.

Reception trends

The trend for reception décor is to build upwards and make the most of the space between the top of the table and the ceiling in the room. Tall centerpieces with candles are very popular but many receptions will be adorned with branches and greenery – easy to find and very inexpensive.

Despite all of these trends becoming popular, the main theme of your winter wedding should be you. If the wedding reflects who you are as a person and makes you happy then that is the most important thing. Consider the trends that appeal to you most and adapt them to suit you so that you can have the wedding of your dreams.
