Make Your Spring Wedding Eco-Friendly

One of the main tips for an eco-friendly wedding is to use local flowers and this is far easier in spring when there are plenty of them around.  They can be picked fresh, even from your own garden.  Bright colors look great at a spring wedding and you can combine this with plenty of fresh greenery.  Recycle mason jars or opt for vintage vases that can be used again to show and display your flowers.  Remember that each table does not have to look the same – make each one slightly different to add texture to your reception.

Flowers are not the only choice when it comes to decorations either.  You can opt for platters of ripe fruits – all sourced locally and in season – and arrange these around the reception room.  Take a look online for a few ideas – this is more than a few fruits piled high on a plate!  They can be much more decorative than you might think.

Finding a venue is something that can be difficult when you are trying to be eco-friendly, but you can opt to have an outdoor wedding.  A beautiful garden is the perfect romantic setting but you need to keep an eye on the weather forecast and be prepared to add a tent to the setting if you need to.  Spring weather can be a little unpredictable, although it depends where you are, and you need to be prepared for any possibility.  An outdoor location means that you also have a great backdrop for your wedding photos and this will save on things like decorations, which is not only good for the environment but also your wallet.

Your wedding food is also easy to make environmentally friendly – you simply opt for a menu that consists of locally-sourced and in-season ingredients.  If you choose a local caterer and specify that this is what you want then it should be fairly easy to achieve.  Ask for organic produce too – these days organic food will not cost you much more than standard food.

As it is the time of rebirth and new growth, consider this when choosing your party favors.  Packets of seeds are a great environmentally friendly gift and are becoming popular.  These can be personalized too if you prefer or you can combine your table decorations with gifts for guests.  Use small potted plants as your decorations and then give one to each guest as a lasting memory of your big day.
